Do what you love, love what you do, or let someone who does, do.

Coming up soon the next group of college students will be graduating from school which means the annual “how do I get a job which pays a lot of money” job posting will being showing up shortly.

The best way to get a good paying job is to pick a field which you like working in.  If you can be passionate about the field you work in, and the work that you do you’ll do well in it and you’ll end up making a good amount of money.

If you pick a field to work in just because of the amount of money that you can make you’ll end up hating your job, and not doing well at it.  Which means that you won’t go very far and you’ll end up in a position which doesn’t pay the kind of money that you are looking for.

Now keep in mind that just because you have graduated from college you aren’t going to be getting at six figure job that your school said that you can get right out of school.  I hate to break it to you, but that probably isn’t going to happen.

The way to get into that good paying job will be a lot of hard work, and some time.  It can take ten years or more to get into that higher paying position, and it won’t happen for everyone.  But for those who are lucky enough and have some passion in the field they select you’ll go a long way in your field, ending up with that high paying job that you want.

Don’t get discouraged that you didn’t get it right away, pretty much no one does.  And the few people that do don’t get to keep those jobs very long because companies see pretty quickly that they aren’t worth the money.  Quite frankly getting a high paying to right out of college will do you more harm in the long run than it will do you good in the short run as you quickly get in over your head and then word gets around that you don’t know what you are doing.  No matter how big an area you work in (and I work in the LA area) IT is a small community and you will always run into people that you used to work with.  If they remember that you didn’t know what you were doing 5 years ago at your first job and you were let go because of it, guess what they will be telling people at your new job 5 years later.

It sucks to take it slow, everyone wants the money to just start rolling in, but it takes time and a lot of hard work to move to the top of your field, no matter what field it is.
